Although clinicians have a duty to communicate accurate and honest information to patients and their families, it is important to understand and communicate the considerable variation in the outcome of individuals under the diagnostic umbrella of schizophrenia. Some people recover completely, and many will be able to live fulfilling lives, even if the reality of their lives is different from the expectations prior to the disease onset.
